Music Lessons

The Play Today Academy of Music caters for muscians of every level; whether you are just starting out or are doing high level exams, we can find the teacher that perfectly suits your needs. We have eight music studios on-site and hold lessons from Mondays to Thursdays from early afternoon until 8:30pm and Saturdays 8am-4pm. All of our teachers are highly qualified and all have blue cards. 

Lessons are $26.00 per half hour; when you enroll with us and payments are made monthly via direct debit. We can also offer a trial lesson to start you off; if you would like this option; the lesson is at the cash rate of $28.

We have a 24 hour cancellation policy if you cannot attend a lesson for any reason. If this notice is provided we will either try to arrange a make up lesson or you will be credited on your next monthly invoice.

David Manley

(MA, MTAQ, Grad Dip F&TV Music) is a successful multi-genre musician, composer/arranger, and music teacher with more than 40 years experience in the music business. He is also a highly experienced, lecturer and Internet author. David is an accomplished teacher, skilled classical and jazz musician with expertise in piano, guitar, banjo, ukulele and vocal.

Nick KirkpatrickNick

Nick has been teaching guitar and bass for the past 5 years and can teach from absolute begginer level to high level examinations. Nick is also a professional muscian on the Sunshine Coast, playing gigs on a weekly basis.

 

 

 

 


IsbelleIsbelle St Clair-Hope

Isbelle has been teaching Piano, Singing, Speech and Drama for 20 years, and can teach up to a grade 7 level in either AMEB or Trinity Examinations. Isbelle starting performing at the age of 4, and starting playing piano at 7, by the age of 17 had completed her grade 7 exams for both Piano and Vocal. She was the Musical Director of the Whyalla Tafe Acting Course, has been director of many successful theatre groups and is an accompianist for regional eisteddfod's.

Alex Takoushi

Alex hasjust achieved Honours in grade 7 Piano for Leisure and has learned up to grade 4 theory so far. He has studied a Certificate in Music Studies at the Queensland Conservatorium majoring in Classical Piano last year and is working towards gaining a place in the Bachelor course there. Although he has only been playing for just over 3 years he has a very strong passion for the piano and is greatly looking forward to sharing this and bringing the joy of playing to the students that he teaches.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Matthew Taudevin

Matthew has over 20 years experience as a playing and performing guitarist and 10 years as an instrumental teaching children and adults - beginners to advanced in all styles including electric, rock,  blues, jazz, acoustic, metal, finger-style.  Hayley Marsh
 

Hayley

Hayley began classical music training aged eight and has recently graduated a Bachelor of Music (Specialisation: Music Theatre) from the Central Queensland Conservatorium. During her time there she was tutored in classical and music theatre voice by Kim Kirkman, founder of rock opera group The Ten Tenors. She performed with the Brisbane Birralee Voices for five years, highlights of which included performing as part of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, and representing Australia at the World Vision International Children’s Choir Festival. Hayley has been a long time cello student of Sue Taylor, and has played in numerous community orchestras and Queensland Youth Orchestras, reaching QYO2. Hayley has experience teaching both children and young adults. She enjoys a positive teaching method with a strong emphasis on foundations and technique, whilst maintaining a sense of fun!  

 

 

 


Kassie Sofia


KassieKassie’s love of music began at the age of 7 when she started taking keyboard lessons. From here, her passion for music grew, with Kassie recently having completed and achieving Honours in the Guild AGMED A.Mus.A and L.Mus.A Contemporary Piano Performance Examinations, with Kassie invited to perform at the ceremony held in
Melbourne in April 2011. With a Bachelor of Music, majoring in piano performance, and a Diploma in Secondary Education under her belt, Kassie hopes to study her Masters in Music Therapy at the University of Queensland over the next few years. Kassie is also a singer-songwriter and has been playing guitar for 8 years. She plays solo gigs on a regular basis around Brisbane, and plays keyboard, guitar and vocals in an indie-rock band named Foxes. 



 
 
 
 

Angela ButlerAngela
Angela has been learning classical violin for eleven years, and is currently studying grade eight AMEB. She has approximately four years of experience in tutoring /teaching violin gained through leadership roles at her school and private students. She also has extensive solo, duet and ensemble performance experience gained through school music tours and assessment concerts, as well as participation in a community youth orchestra.Angela has worked with students aged four to sixteen and aims to tailor her lessons to suit each student’s interests and goals. Ben
Ben Knibb


Ben has recently returned from a year of studies in 
Toronto, Canada, where he completed his Jazz Performance degree which he had started at the Queensland Conservatorium.  Ben is currently performing professionally around the Sunshine Coast with original and cover groups.  Since finishing high school, Ben has been privileged to teach at some of the best music departments around the Sunshine Coast schools, including Matthew Flinder Anglican Collage and St. Johns College.











Isaac

Isaac Collins Kennedy
Isaac Collins Kennedy is a Country/Rock/Contemporary artist who loves to perform. He was given his first guitar at the age of 4 years old. His passion has always been to sing and entertain. Isaac loves to write his own music, and plays guitar, drums and bass, along with some piano, harmonica, and mandolin. He picks up his guitar, and plays an instrument at any chance he can get. He won QLD Champion of Champions Overall Winner in 2008 and graduated from the Academy of Music Tamworth in 2010. He has a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Music), and is continuing study with a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education. 
  
 
 
 

stephen Stephen Meldrum

Stephen has a Bachelor of Arts in Contemporary Music Composition from Southern Cross University and his passion is explaining how and why music works. Teaching Drums/Percussion, Guitar and Bass, his students have ranged in age from under 10 to over 60. Stephen's versatile career as a Jazz, Concert, Marching, Theatre and Rock musician over 20 years makes him more than capable of exploring with you any genre or performance style. If your looking to learn your favourite songs or write some new ones, Stephen's approach is insightful and inspiring.

 

 

  


Aimee Sisleyaimee

Aimee Sisley has a Bachelor of Music (Saxophone Performance Major) and a Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary Music and Instrumental) from the

QueenslandUniversity of Technology.

As a performer, Aimee has been involved with the Kelvin Grove Wind Symphony, QUT Big Band, Wind Symphony, Noosphere – a 20th century music ensemble and various chamber groups. As a soloist, Aimee has explored a wide range of repertoire from Australian music through to contemporary works, collaborating with peers and professionals at every opportunity.

Aimee has a love for teaching, and she has already cemented a fine reputation as an educator tutoring at music workshops state-wide, including the SunwaterStanwellWinterMusicSchool and the Gladstone Youth Primary Workshops. Aimee believes in providing uniquely tailored music tuition, to suit the needs, interests and characteristics of each individual learner, in a supportive and friendly environment.

 

 

 

 


 

claudiaClaudia Hii

Claudia started learning the violin at age 6 and piano at 10, completing her A.Mus.A on violin and grade 7 piano at age 16. She has been teaching violin and piano for over five years to students of various ages and ability levels. She studied Music Education at the University of Queensland specialising in both classroom and instrumental music. Claudia currently composes and conducts music for a community youth orchestra as well as teaching music.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


Lindsey Cuthbertsonlindsey

Lindsey Cuthbertson picked up a pair of drumsticks when he was two years old and hit everything from chairs to pillows until he received his first drum kit at the age of ten. Lindsey went from being a self-taught musician to learning the drums at a university level, and his unique and creative approach to the art of music teaching caters for students of all skill levels and styles.
